Photoemission electron microscopy experiment cartoon

This cartoon shows the experimental setup for photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM). The objective and projection electron-optics lenses are much simplified and several intermediate lenses are not shown. The lenses have a quarter missing in order to expose the electron beam as it is focussed and defocussed on to the detector screen shown at the top.

The data is of iron-nanoparticles recorded around the Fe L2- and L3-edge between 700 and 740 eV, courtesy of Armin Kleibert, Paul Scherrer Institute. Original publication: A. Fraile Rodríguez et al., https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/0022-3727/43/47/474006
